SPACE
Introduction :
One aspect of my work is that it is a comment on the conflicts of Modern existence and the challenges I experience living, breathing and feeling in a society that is propelled forward by consumption and alienation.
I rescue detritus, discarded objects, bringing them together and reassembling them in such a way as to give them a new life and narrative.
I jump on arterial highways moving at great speed yet sitting quite still scavenging and searching and I return with familiar objects into the warm internal space with the intention of making some sort of aesthetic sense of the outside cold, wet and windy ever changing world.
I am looking in and looking out in the same instant but 'time' creates episodes in between.
IDEA 2 ; MATERIALS
The effect this has on me and the viewer is that of unease and the need to ask the question “Is this Art and what is Art? The condition that afflicts much of Contemporary Art.
The use of these everyday, throwaway materials that belong to the modern world are now used increasingly in Contemporary Art. Why?
What provoked the need for change in the types of materials and the spaces in which they are viewed and experienced?
IDEA 3 ;
TIME
